The SG-17R/2xMR-17S4T (8xRS232, 4xEth10/100) terminal server allows linking up to 8 devices to RS232 interfaces. The terminal server is accessed over Ethernet interfaceSections:Technical characteristicsSG-17R-1RU-CP1-4ETH/220VAC-W1 base platform
Extension modules SG-17R/2xMR-17S4T (8xRS232, 4xEth10/100) configuration:
DescriptionThe SG-17R/2xMR-17S4T (8xRS232, 4xEth10/100) terminal server is designed in a 1U height compact case for 19’’ rack-mount drawer. The multiplexer features 4 Ethernet 10/100 ports, 8 RS-232 ports. The terminal server allows reducing to minimum the number of links from serial ports on the side of the equipment control centre. It is enough to establish a link to the terminal server over IP-network through different channel-forming equipment: Ethernet, SHDSL, E1. The administration of SG-17R/2xMR-17S4T (8xRS232, 4xEth10/100) may be competed through serial interface, SNMP, Web, ssh. The device features options of remote program update, configuration saving and restoring. The terminal server may be used both in business and carrier networks. In this case SG-17R is accessed remotely over ssh with further choice of console port, to which the equipment under control (PBX, base stations, etc) is linked. A terminal program is launched for each of the ports. This program makes sure the operation mode is identical local connection over serial port. If needed, the SG-17R/2xMR-17S4T (8xRS232, 4xEth10/100) equipment may simultaneously be a multiplexer and a router for different interfaces. When used as a router, DHCP and DNS settings may be used; traffic management is carried out by means of NAT, Firewall, QoS. The device allows using static paths and itself may be using RIP protocol. If there is no need and the router-mode is off, the device may function as a bridge in the mode of direct-connection between the chosen interfaces. By means of a built-in 4-port Ethernet 10/100 commutator it is possible to unite a small local group, with the possibility for each of the ports to be configured individually according to the traffic-control rules. Each of the ports may as well function as a LAN or WAN interface. Port-based and port-tagged VLAN is supported. The SG-17R-1RU-CP2-3SFP/220VAC-W1 variant of the base platform may be used to link to high-speed gigabit trunks. Installation of an additional SHDSL module allows transmitting data between remote objects over a dedicated line. This channel may be used either for IP-traffic transmission or for multiplexing E1 streams. The maximum rate in the line reaches 14080kbit/s over single pair. This allows transmitting up to 6 E1 streams over single pair. In the multiplexing mode, multi-pair link used, the E1 streams’ surpluses are aggregated in a single logical link for Ethernet transportation. The “remote power supplier” mode allows using these devices together with SG-17E regenerators. This allows setting up rate-maintaining DTCs and increasing the distance between SHDSL devices. The SG-17R/MR-17G4/2xMR-17S2T (4xE1, 4xRS232, 4xEth10/100) multiplexer features built-in option of SHDSL circuit monitoring in accordance with the G.991.2 standard. The multiplexer supports MIB-II and HDSL2-SHDSL-LINE-MIB. Installation of an additional E1 module allows linking up the terminal server by means of the carriers who provide network access over G.703/G.704 interfaces. Each 1 module may feature 1 to 8 ports. To increase the channel capacity several E1 interfaces may by united into a single channel by means of SG-17R software. Each E1 interface may transmit full-size or divided streams. Any of the channels of the E1 module may be used in the multiplexing into SHDSL, RS232 and other E1 channels mode. The interfaces may as well be used for data routing in HDLC mode. Additional FXO/FXS/VF telephone modules allow linking up subscriber lines form BPXs, telephones, fax machines and voice-frequency channels equipment. The SG-17R base platform allows installing all these modules in different combinations. Adapter-module for CardBus Card allows using standard devices of this class, for example, to establish a Wi-Fi connection. In this case the device may be either access point or the client. For multiservice traffic over the chosen interface it is possible to select one of two modes available: data-multiplexing mode and packet-mode with isolated fixed pass-band and QoS for the requested service. Usage examplesUniting Ethernet networks over several pairs using different interfaces: SHDSL, E1, RS232![]() Usage example description Purpose: uniting two Ethernet networks to reach full output in the link by using the bonding mode. In this scheme SG-17R provides either internetwork connection between two Ethernet groups with routing rules or bridge link with shared addressing of the networks united. Transfer rate over each pair reaches 14080 kbit/s. Different transfer rate may be set up in different pairs. It is important that even if on one of the pairs there is a link loss, the performance of the channel does not fail. Up to 6 pairs may be simultaneously linked to a single SG-17R device for SHDSL links based on SG-17R-1RU-CP1-4ETH platform. Up to 8 pairs may be simultaneously linked to a single SG-17R device for SHDSL links based on SG-17R-1RU-CP2-3SFP platform. Besides, in the bonding mode it is possible to unite any kind of channel-forming equipment, through which IP-traffic is transferred: E1, RS-232. Both Ether-HDLC and PPP-multilink may be chosen as protocols. Using in usage example products and product groups (

Setting up standby or control channel over Dial-In server![]() Usage example description Purpose: setting up standby or control data channel over wireless or commute connections. A Dial-In server built into SG-17R helps to establish a link between the server and the users of the control centre using the "dial-in over modem" mode. After the link is established, the user may carry out terminal and web control over the SG-17R device. In this mode the user may complete any action needed to configure SG-17R, to access the statistics, etc. Moreover, if additional equipment is connected to the serial ports of SG-17R, such equipment may be operated in console mode without web-browser exit. If operator’s transport network is used, it is possible to establish a standby channel in case of any trouble in the main channel. In order to maintain operation of the system low-speed modems may be used for dedicated lines with RS232 ports that provide greater transmission distances. The maximal number of installed RS232 ports is 16. Different DTE/DCE operating modes are supported for successive modules. Along with linking up the equipment with serial channels any SG-17R interfaces may be used, for example to connect a local network, telephony or to link up voice frequency channels equipment. Setting up terminal server using wireless technologies![]() Usage example description Purpose: setting up terminal access server for console control of the remote equipment, linked to SG-17R over RS232 interfaces. Within this mode SG-17R is accessed remotely via wireless equipment, for example via GSM modems with further choice of the console port, to which the controlled device is linked. SG-17R may as well be accessed via modem for commute or dedicated lines. The control of SG-17R dial-in modes is carried out through built-in Dial-In server. If MR-17S* modules are used, it is possible to link up up to 15 devices featuring RS232 ports, apart from GSM modem. Along with linking up the equipment with serial channels any of the SG-17R interfaces may be used, for example to connect a local network, telephony or to link up voice frequency channel equipment. For establishing wireless IP-connections the SG-17R router may feature a built-in WiFi or WiMax module. Using in usage example products and product groups (
